CHALLENGE
The organisation of specialist paediatric palliative care in Italy was fragmented and poorly documented at national level, making it difficult to plan coherent policies.
APPROACH
A national mapping and analysis of the paediatric palliative care system in Italy, conducted in collaboration with a network of up to 17 scientific societies. Collection and analysis of structured data on organisation, geographic distribution and care models.
OUTPUT
Two peer-reviewed articles published in the Italian Journal of Pediatrics in 2025, documenting for the first time the state of specialist paediatric palliative care in Italy.
OUTCOME
A national reference framework now available to policymakers, institutions and healthcare professionals to guide the development and funding of paediatric palliative care services.
